In relation to the concepts covered in this course, those who have Careers in IT incorporate what we have learned daily. Although there is a vast spectrum of different careers in IT, many utilize the fundamental concepts we have learned such as the use of hardware and software, web and mobile applications, managing files and memory, the use of data bases, programming languages, network security, and the use of word, spreadsheet, and power point. With these concepts, professionals within the IT industry can perform a vast number of functions across all types of industry like aerospace, agriculture, automation, entertainment, finance, manufacturing, medical, and scientific research to name a few.  The use of these concepts, and the power they possess, have been a tool in the innovation and development of the modern day era.

 

 How do Careers in IT relate to the concepts of information technology and computer science, including the history of computers and the means by which they operate?

              Careers in IT encapsulate the very essence of what information technology and computer science is and what it is used for. The fundamental nature of the industry is to use the functions of computers to optimize a process for a specific output. With information technology and computer science, it has become possible to automate processes, solve complex problems, store, search, analyze, send, and receive data at much higher frequency. Simply put, the advancement of computers and information technology has been an integral part in our conscious and technological development. As the technology has evolved, it has led to innovative advancements in hardware, software, networking, cybersecurity, data science, and now we are entering into the age of Artificial Intelligence.


How reliant are IT careers on modern hardware and computer functions?

Careers in IT are highly reliant on modern hardware and computer functions. With an absence of modern hardware and computer functions there would be significant implications and several challenges that would impact IT careers including limited infrastructure and compatibility issues, a drastic reduction in processing capabilities and performance, lack of innovation, and major economic struggles. It would be like rewinding to a time before computers existed, where we still used pencils and paper, and sent mail via postal service. The exchange of information, our ability to solve complex problems, and the automation of processes would be drastically impacted. Nearly everything we have technologically in modern times like cell phones, streaming services, and the internet would not be possible to the scale it is today.


How do Careers in IT incorporate programming languages and program execution methods?

Careers in IT incorporate programming languages and execution methods in many ways including software, web, and app development, database management, automation, algorithm design, and troubleshooting. Programming languages and execution methods are essential in writing, testing, and the implementation of these applications and allow professionals to effectively deliver efficient and reliable products to their users with the goal of performing a specific task and generating a desired output.


How does application software play a role in IT careers?

              Application software refers to a computer program designed to facilitate a certain task or function (Indeed). Application software plays a crucial role in the IT industry as they have a spectral range of capabilities. Different application software is used for many functions in the IT industry including word processing, creating spreadsheets, and power point presentations, database management, analytics, email, web browsers and content creation like video, graphics, and audio. By having prebuilt computer programs capable of performing certain functions, IT professionals can streamline many tasks increasing productivity by saving time, money, and energy.


Relationship to database concepts and database management?

Careers in IT have a very close relationship with the use and management of databases. Professionals use databases for many purposes including to securely store, organize, edit, search, analyze, and manage large amounts of data (Oracle). Data bases can be used to store all types of information from user account information, inventory, transactions, research and scientific data, geospatial data, documents, files, images, and other types of multimedia. In terms of database management, IT professionals ensure database optimization by providing accurate, organized, consistent, accessible, backed up, and a secure means of storage.


How does network architecture, management, and security influence IT Careers?

IT professionals who work within these areas of the industry must take into account the importance of network architecture, management, and security.  It is vital that the network infrastructure be strategically designed to ensure optimized performance, scalability, continuity, accessibility, and integration of interoperable applications. By strategically designing and optimizing the system architecture, it allows for more effective management in terms of organizing, editing, retrieving, analyzing, processing, sharing, and securing data. Also, by having an effective and efficient management and system architecture in place, it is easier to protect sensitive data from internal/ external hacks and data breaches, comply with regulatory requirements, and prevent data loss.
